Rule of Thumb
September 27, 2009

“Rule of Thumb,” as it was known in some circles, was a great thing for seat posts. Tricks like side glides, and a variety of balance tricks required the seat to be in close proximity to the handlebars so that riders could stop the bikes rotation, grabbing both the grip and seat, and either coaster along, or balancing.
Someone along the line, anti-post conspirators did away with important tricks like the Side Glide and Trackstands, and subsequently ended Robert Peterson’s career.
Try some of these tricks on a modern BMX bike with a stub for a post. I dare you.
